Second viewing for the 3D spectacle after watching the inferior Clash of the Titans. A lot of ideas borrowed from other movies including his own, James Cameron puts an entertaining enough story together in Avatar. Question? Will this movie still be entertaining in 25 years time like Aliens? I'm not sure, nor am I sure I would be happy to watch it on my home TV with normal (not 3D) vision. The 7.5 score is based on the fact that it is an event movie and a landmark movie in terms of effects. There is not one really dramatic or tense set piece that would stop me leaving the house until I had watched it. Watchable nonetheless but compare it to District 9 for one sixth the cost and maybe think, this movie is greater than the sum of it's parts but time will decide whether the script is that original or a constant crowd pleaser. Definately one for cinema screen goers who appreciate a visual feast.
